About Our Church

Front of Church

Heritage United Church was established in the autumn of 1979 to serve the northwest corner of the city. St. James United Church is our parent church. For almost five years, the ministerial staff of St. James served our congregation.

In July 1984, Heritage became a pastoral charge on its own and has had its own full time ministry personnel since that time. We moved into our building in 1989. Our present clergy person is Rev. Joy Cowan.

Our church is governed by a Council. Council meets once a month from September to June. Council consists of the following committees: Christian Education, Worship, Finance/Stewardship/Fundraising, Ministry & Personnel, Pastoral Care, Property, Planned Gift and Nominating.

Sunday School

We offer Sunday School with classes for children up to Grade 6. Our Church School currently uses Seasons of the Spirit curriculum, a Bible Story based program through which the children are invited to understand the Bible as a story, encounter and interpret it, connect the story with life experiences, and then to live the story in the world as disciples of Jesus Christ.

There is  a Nursery area with a window into the Centrum. There is a speaker in the nursery so you can hear the service.
